Following the ceremony, President Muizzu toured the mosque and participated in the congregational prayer. The mosque, commissioned to a private developer, is a modern three-storey structure designed to accommodate 1,400 worshippers. Located in a prominent area of Male’, the mosque has historically served a significant number of congregants. Construction began in 2025 after the Ministry of Islamic Affairs signed an MoU with a private party in January 2024. The mosque’s interiors feature Islamic architectural elements and intricate designs. Expanding prayer capacity across the Maldives remains a key government priority, with several mosques set to open ahead of Ramadan and ongoing projects nationwide.
