President Muizzu Inspects Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu Upgrade to Meet July Completion

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu construction site to assess the progress of a critical road development project aimed at modernizing one of Malé's most vital transport arteries.
Accompanied by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Managing Director Ahmed Saudee and other senior officials, the President received a comprehensive briefing on the project's current status and the timeline for its final stages. The initiative, contracted to MTCC, involves the comprehensive upgrade and tarring of 700 metres of roadway to meet contemporary infrastructure standards.
The development is being executed in three segments. MTCC officials confirmed that all three segments will be tarred simultaneously, with asphalt laying operations scheduled to begin in June. To maintain structural and aesthetic consistency, the design for the current phase aligns with the standards established during the completion of the previous two segments.
The third segment is expected to bring the most significant transformation to the area. Due to the scale of the works, this section will undergo full closure for comprehensive redevelopment. A key feature of this phase is the creation of a substantial new parking zone to alleviate congestion in one of the capital's busiest commercial hubs. This facility, created through dredging operations measuring 98 metres in length and 28 metres in width from the harbour, will provide dedicated parking for 500 motorcycles.
This infrastructure project is part of a broader effort to enhance urban mobility and commercial accessibility within Malé. MTCC has set an ambitious target to finalize all construction works and open the fully developed road to the public by July, promising a significant reduction in traffic bottlenecks and improved parking facilities for local businesses and commuters.
