President Muizzu Inspects Boduthakurufaanu Magu Upgrade to Ease Male' Traffic Congestion

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the northern side of Male' to inspect the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu upgrading project. The redevelopment effort is currently in its first phase, focusing on critical roadworks designed to alleviate the capital's chronic traffic congestion. Accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and senior officials from the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the President received a detailed briefing on the current status and the remaining milestones of the project. The first phase spans five distinct sections, stretching from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. According to MTCC, asphalt laying has officially commenced. Paving is already complete on the stretch between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Work is now shifting toward the remaining section, with asphalt laying from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Presidential Jetty expected to begin shortly. Beyond road surfacing, the project includes a significant urban planning component: the reclamation of land adjacent to the road. This newly created space will be developed into a dedicated parking area capable of accommodating 500 motorcycles, addressing one of the primary causes of roadside bottlenecks in the city. MTCC has set an ambitious deadline to complete all components of the upgrade and reopen the road to public traffic by July 26. The government anticipates that the modernized thoroughfare will significantly improve vehicle flow and reduce travel times for residents and commuters navigating the densely populated northern district of the capital.
