President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited the construction site in Hulhumalé Phase II where the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) will build 1,224 housing units. The inspection focused on preparations for the Bank of Maldives (BML)-financed Affordable Housing Project, a cornerstone of the administration's housing policy. The visit follows the project's groundbreaking ceremony on March 22. During a briefing, President Muizzu stressed the critical need for timely progress and urged company management to proceed without delay. Senior CMEC officials assured him that development remains on schedule for completion by mid-2028. The project is part of a larger government plan to develop 3,260 housing units across Hulhumalé Phase I, Hulhumalé Phase II, and Vilimalé. It operates under a lease-to-own model through the BML Affordable Home Leasing scheme, providing a structured pathway to homeownership for Maldivian residents. The President was accompanied on the site visit by Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from BML, representatives from CMEC, and heads of relevant State-Owned Enterprises.
