President Muizzu Issues Decree to Relocate Hirimaradhoo Residents to Hanimaadhoo

Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has issued a presidential decree to relocate residents of Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. This decision comes shortly after a MVR 4 million project was initiated at Hirimaradhoo. The relocation aims to designate Hanimaadhoo as the electoral constituency for Hirimaradhoo residents ahead of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee Elections scheduled for April 4, 2026. The government had previously initiated a waste and resource management center on the island, emphasizing that essential services would continue as long as residents remained. However, the presidential decree now marks a shift towards finalizing the resettlement process, after which Hirimaradhoo will be declared uninhabited.
