President Muizzu Launches Direct Public Dialogue to Address Housing and Accessibility

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has launched a new initiative titled 'Rayyithunge Adu,' designed to provide a direct line of communication between the presidency and the Maldivian public. During the inaugural episode, the President pledged to listen to citizens' concerns and work toward resolutions within the framework of existing government policies. The program serves as a forum for individuals from diverse backgrounds to bring both personal grievances and matters of public interest directly to the Head of State. Participants are selected based on request volume and the administrative capacity of the President’s Office, ensuring a structured approach to these face-to-face consultations. In the first session, citizens highlighted critical systemic gaps, with a primary focus on the acute shortage of housing, limited access to essential medicines, and stagnating career progression. A poignant moment occurred when a participant with a disability detailed the ongoing struggle for accessibility, specifically noting the lack of wheelchair ramps in mosques and the poor quality of equipment provided by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). President Muizzu acknowledged the validity of these concerns, describing them as important issues that require urgent attention. Addressing the housing crisis, he stated that the government is currently exploring options to construct additional flats, emphasizing that priority will be given to those with no other viable means of securing a home. The President concluded the session by encouraging the public to utilize the program to share their ideas and challenges. He expressed a commitment to meeting as many citizens as possible to ensure that the administration remains responsive to the lived experiences of the people. By bridging the gap between the executive office and the community, 'Rayyithunge Adu' aims to foster greater transparency and accountability in governance, providing a platform where the most vulnerable voices in the Maldives can be heard directly by the presidency.
