President Muizzu Nominates Dr. Aishath Rameela as HRCM President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Dr. Aishath Rameela, the former Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, as the president of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). This nomination follows her recent appointment as a member of the HRCM on December 3, 2025. The President’s letter nominating Rameela was sent to the Parliament on December 3 and read during an extraordinary session. Her nomination has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Human Rights Committee for review. Rameela, who holds a PhD in social science, previously served as a minister and has battled advanced metastatic serous papillary carcinoma. The HRCM currently consists of Mohamed Shafeeg Mahmood, Samau Ahmed Najeeb, Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, Ahmed Magsoom, and Aishath Rameela.
