President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the nomination of Jameela Ali Khalid to the Parliament for appointment as the Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The nomination marks a strategic move to fill a critical diplomatic post in one of the Maldives' most significant international partnerships. The vacancy arose following the recent restructuring of the government's diplomatic leadership. The position was previously held by Iruthisham Adam, who transitioned from the ambassadorship to serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Muizzu's administration. Under the Maldives Foreign Service Act, the appointment of ambassadors to foreign nations and non-resident ambassadors requires formal approval from the Majlis (the Maldivian Parliament). Jameela’s nomination has been forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee for detailed review and consideration. Once the committee completes its assessment, the appointment will be put to a vote in the Parliament for final approval.
