President Muizzu Nominates Mohamed Nizar as Privatization and Corporatization Board Chairman
World ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the nomination of Mohamed Nizar to the Parliament for appointment as the Chairman of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB). The move follows the resignation of the board's previous president, Mohamed Anas.
The nomination has been referred to the parliamentary State and Enterprises Committee. This committee is tasked with vetting Nizar's credentials and qualifications before the full Parliament votes on the confirmation of his appointment.
Nizar is a seasoned administrator with over 30 years of experience spanning international business, corporate management, and public administration. He is no stranger to the role, having previously served as the head of the PCB from 2014 to 2019. During that tenure, he was instrumental in driving the government's corporatization agenda and strengthening the management frameworks of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
Before his leadership at the PCB, Nizar spent two decades at the State Trading Organization (STO). He held several senior executive roles, including General Manager and Deputy Director, where he oversaw critical divisions such as Imports, Information Technology, and Sales. His legacy at STO includes the implementation of the company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and the modernization of supply-chain logistics.
Beyond his executive roles, Nizar has served on the boards of Maldive Gas and Maldives Structural Products Pvt Ltd. He has also provided expertise to various national committees specializing in corporate governance, procurement, and risk management.
Nizar holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia. His academic background is supplemented by extensive international training in the management of state-owned companies.
The parliamentary committee is expected to conclude its review shortly, paving the way for a final vote by the Majlis to formalize Nizar's leadership at the PCB.
