Politics ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Service Corps’ School of Engineering and Logistics, marking a significant shift in the nation's military training capabilities. Located in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll, the facility is the first of its kind in the Maldives. Established to enhance the technical and scientific proficiency of the MNDF, the school aims to produce a new generation of technically skilled military personnel capable of handling complex logistics and engineering challenges. A central component of the school is its integration with the President’s National Service initiative. The inaugural intake consists of 65 students representing 35 different islands. This diverse cohort includes 49 males and 16 females, all aged between 16 and 19, reflecting a commitment to youth empowerment and gender inclusivity in technical training. The curriculum is designed for immediate practical application, offering specialized courses in automobile engineering, marine engineering, electrical work, refrigeration, welding, and office management. Each four-month program is approved by the Maldives Qualifications Authority at Level 3, ensuring that students receive certified training that prepares them for both military service and the civilian job market. Beyond technical instruction, the school emphasizes holistic development. The program incorporates rigorous training in discipline, character-building, and punctuality, alongside religious awareness and the core values of national service. This dual approach ensures that graduates are not only skilled technicians but also disciplined citizens. The inauguration took place during the celebrations of the 134th anniversary of the MNDF. The event served as a bridge between the force's past and future, featuring a comprehensive report and video presentation on military history, as well as the awarding of special medals to honor long-serving soldiers for their dedication to the state.
