President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the government's administrative framework, dissolving six ministries and establishing a new ministry focused on climate change and environment. The changes were formalised through a directive issued by the President's Office. The newly established Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy will oversee environmental protection, climate-related matters, and natural resources. The six ministries dissolved are: Social and Family Development; Transport and Civil Aviation; Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development; Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts; Cities, Local Government and Public Works; and Agriculture and Animal Welfare. Several existing ministries have been renamed to reflect expanded responsibilities. The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology is now the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology. The Ministry of Finance and Planning has become the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises. The Ministry of Education is now the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, while the Ministry of Health has been renamed the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare. Other renaming changes include the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade becoming the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment now being the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. The restructuring also includes significant reallocation of agency oversight. The National Careers Service has moved to the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology. Educational bodies including the Maldives Qualifications Authority, Maldives National Skills Development Authority, and Maldives Polytechnic have been transferred to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development. Social services have been consolidated under the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare, including the National Social Protection Agency, family and children's service centres, and the Child and Protection Service. The Environmental Protection Agency, Utility Regulatory Authority, and Maldives Meteorological Service now fall under the new Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy. President Muizzu has also assigned new numerical designations to each ministry for official correspondence, ranging from 10 to 1139.
