President Muizzu Pledges Comprehensive Solutions for Housing and Healthcare Crisis

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving systemic housing and healthcare challenges facing Maldivian citizens, promising tangible results within the next two years. Speaking during the fourth edition of 'Rayyithunge Adu'—a public forum designed to facilitate direct communication between the President and the people—the head of state addressed a wide array of grievances. Housing emerged as the most pressing concern, with citizens highlighting critical gaps in eligibility criteria and administrative failures in flat allocations. One particularly poignant case involved a widow who had been promised a Hiyaa flat prior to her husband's death, only to find the allocation stalled following his passing. Others voiced frustrations over long-term residency in Malé without meeting the rigid requirements of current housing schemes. Responding to these concerns, President Muizzu emphasized that his administration possesses the political will to deliver lasting solutions. "Whether it is land or flats, I hope that within the next two years, along with the many projects that are underway, we will achieve good results in providing housing," the President stated. Healthcare was another focal point of the discussion, with participants calling for expanded services in the densely populated Malé region and improvements to the Aasandha insurance scheme. The President acknowledged that the high expenditure on Aasandha is a direct result of limited domestic capacity to provide specialized care. To combat this, the government is prioritizing the expansion of GP clinics and increasing the healthcare workforce. President Muizzu specifically mentioned targeted improvements in Shaviyani Atoll, including Funadhoo and Ungoofaaru. He noted that the primary goal is to ensure Maldivians can receive treatment for serious illnesses domestically, reducing the dependency on costly and stressful travel abroad for medical care. Beyond these core pillars, the forum touched upon the growth of small businesses, employment challenges, and the emerging e-sports sector. The President concluded by assuring participants that his administration is dedicated to delivering progress across all sectors to improve the overall quality of life for the public.
