President Muizzu Pledges Expanded Education and Jobs for Maldivian Youth

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding opportunities in higher education, vocational skills development, and employment for the nation's youth. The President shared these priorities in a social media message commemorating International Youth Day. Emphasizing that young people constitute approximately 45 percent of the Maldivian population, President Muizzu described the youth as one of the country's greatest strengths. He noted that their creativity, determination, and courage are essential drivers for societal change and the foundation upon which the country's future will be built. To translate these aspirations into tangible outcomes, the government is prioritizing several key initiatives. The President specifically highlighted the National Apprenticeship Programme and the National Service Programme as critical pillars of the administration's strategy to bridge the gap between education and employment. Beyond formal training, the government has established a National Youth Advisory Committee to ensure young voices are integrated into policy-making. These efforts are part of a broader vision to develop a 'creative economy,' fostering a generation of innovative entrepreneurs and professionals capable of driving sustainable development. To further prepare the workforce, the administration is collaborating with private-sector companies and government agencies to implement upskilling and apprenticeship programs. These partnerships aim to provide practical, hands-on experience that aligns with current market demands. International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, was first established in 1998 following a global ministerial meeting on youth affairs. In the Maldives, the day serves as a reminder of the critical role young citizens play in achieving long-term national prosperity.
