President Muizzu Pledges to Strengthen Security and Trade Ties with United States

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with the United States, focusing on security, trade, and economic development. The pledge was made in a formal message to US President Donald J. Trump marking the 250th anniversary of United States Independence. In his letter, President Muizzu extended warm greetings to President Trump, the US government, and the American people. He highlighted that the anniversary carries additional weight this year, as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two nations. The President noted that the partnership has evolved steadily over six decades, rooted in mutual respect and a shared dedication to global peace and prosperity. He emphasized that the Maldives deeply values its relationship with the US as a cornerstone of its international engagement. Specifically, President Muizzu outlined key areas for expanded collaboration, including defense and security, trade, economic growth, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
