President Muizzu Receives Credentials from High Commissioners of Ghana and Canada

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially received Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner of Ghana, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, and the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Canada, Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin, during separate ceremonies at the President’s Office. The diplomatic arrivals were marked by traditional Maldivian 'Haiykolhu' cultural processions, featuring the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, underscoring the ceremonial importance of the appointments. Following the formal presentations, President Muizzu held individual meetings with the envoys to outline strategic priorities for bilateral cooperation. In discussions with Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, the two leaders focused on deepening ties between Male' and Accra, specifically targeting growth in trade, tourism, and technical exchange. Both parties pledged to enhance their collaboration not only bilaterally but also across regional and global diplomatic platforms. The Maldives and Ghana have shared formal diplomatic relations since August 10, 1989. During his meeting with High Commissioner Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin, President Muizzu addressed critical shared challenges and opportunities. The conversation centered on climate change adaptation—a primary concern for the low-lying archipelago—alongside seaplane cooperation, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and youth. Both representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening multilateral ties between the two nations. The diplomatic partnership between the Maldives and Canada dates back to December 14, 1981. These meetings signal the administration's ongoing efforts to diversify international partnerships and secure cooperation on environmental resilience and economic development.
