President Muizzu Secures Permanent Visa Solution for Maldivians in Sri Lanka

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has received official assurances from the Sri Lankan government that a permanent solution to long-standing visa difficulties facing Maldivians will be implemented. The announcement came during a meeting with the Maldivian community as part of the President's ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka. During high-level discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President Muizzu emphasized the need for a lasting resolution to the administrative hurdles Maldivians encounter. While efforts to streamline visa processes have been underway for two years, President Dissanayake has now personally committed to prioritizing and finalizing a definitive solution. Beyond immigration issues, the state visit has focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and development. The two governments have already formulated several key agreements aimed at strengthening the economic ties between the two neighboring nations. To further support the Maldivian diaspora, President Muizzu revealed that progress is being made to open a branch of the Bank of Maldives (BML) in Sri Lanka. Once finalized, the branch is expected to provide critical financial services for Maldivians living abroad, as well as Sri Lankan nationals residing in the Maldives. The President also pledged a comprehensive upgrade of Sosun Villa, the Maldivian educational and cultural center in Sri Lanka. Identifying the facility's current state as inadequate, the administration plans to renovate the infrastructure, enhance classrooms, and develop a modern indoor sports complex modeled after those currently being built across the Maldives. President Muizzu concluded by stating that implementing these community-focused improvements will be a priority immediately upon his return to the Maldives. These initiatives collectively aim to improve the quality of life, education, and financial accessibility for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka.
