President Muizzu Sets 2027 Target for Peak Infrastructure Project Completion

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the majority of the government's nationwide development projects are slated for completion by 2027. Speaking during the sixth episode of 'The Pulse' podcast series, the President emphasized that infrastructure upgrades are progressing from the north to the south of the Maldives, with several key milestones expected this year. Addressing public concerns regarding delays in certain projects, President Muizzu stated that the country has overcome previous economic challenges. He assured citizens that practical work is resuming and will move forward without further significant delays, though some specialized projects will extend into 2028. The President highlighted a commitment to a sustainable development policy aimed at ensuring every citizen receives a standardized level of service regardless of their island. A primary focus of the current agenda is the revitalization of local governance infrastructure. Noting that many council offices were in poor condition upon his administration taking office, the President revealed a plan to construct modern council buildings. He expects the bulk of these offices to be completed by mid-2027, with approximately 100 islands operating from new facilities within the next two years. Transport and connectivity remain central to the government's economic strategy. The President emphasized that airport developments provide both social and economic returns. Specifically, he provided an update on the Thilamalé Bridge project in the Malé region, noting that construction is now progressing at a faster pace and is expected to be completed soon. The President also addressed infrastructure needs in Addu City, the Maldives' second-most populous urban center, responding to specific queries on the region's growth. However, the most ambitious undertaking remains the relocation of the capital's port from Malé to Thilafushi. President Muizzu gave a firm assurance that this critical logistics project will be completed by November 11, 2027.
