President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that completing at least seventy percent of the projects currently entrusted to the government by the end of next year is the government’s biggest goal. Speaking in the Nation Chat program brought by PSM News tonight, Muizzu said that in the state budget to be submitted tomorrow to the People's Majlis, the greatest emphasis will be given to completing the projects that have already been signed and entrusted. He highlighted that this includes accelerating stalled projects due to various reasons and delivering their results to the people. Muizzu said, "The goal is to make next year a year where, God willing, we complete and deliver at least seventy percent of the projects we are currently entrusted with."
Muizzu also stated that more emphasis will be placed in next year's budget on completing ongoing work than on starting new projects, but added that some important new projects necessary to fulfill promises made to the people will also be included in the budget. Regarding the country's economic situation, Muizzu said that when he took office, the country was in a very fragile economic position, but thanks to the measures taken, the country was saved from default. He also noted that the improvement in the country's credit rating is evidence of growing investor confidence.
While pointing out the challenges faced in advancing projects, the President said that rising oil prices in the world market and issues in the Middle East have had significant impacts on the Maldives' economy. However, he said that the government has done much work to prevent these impacts from directly affecting the people. Muizzu expressed certainty that the operations of companies like MTCC and RDC will be strengthened over the coming year, and port and road construction projects will proceed at full speed. Specifically, Muizzu highlighted that since difficulties in obtaining large aggregates needed for port construction have been resolved, significant progress will be seen in island projects in the coming months.
