President Muizzu Sets National Service Programme as Pillar of Youth Development Policy

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that the Maldives National Service (MNS) programme remains a central pillar of the government's youth development strategy, aimed at fostering a resilient and patriotic generation. Following the departure of the third batch of recruits, the President emphasized that the initiative is designed to cultivate self-confidence and mental toughness. The curriculum focuses on national identity, responsible citizenship, Islamic values, and leadership, while integrating physical fitness and essential life skills to ensure participants are grounded in faith and discipline. Since the programme's inception on October 1 last year, over 680 young people have successfully completed their training across two initial batches. The current cohort consists of 352 participants—288 men and 64 women—representing 115 islands across 20 atolls. These recruits have now commenced their primary training at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Composite Training Centre located in Maafilaafushi, Lhaviyani Atoll. The scale of interest in the programme remains high, with 1,785 students applying during the second recruitment phase alone. This demand underscores the perceived value of the training, which has already garnered positive feedback from parents who note improvements in their children's character and daily habits. Beyond personal development, the MNS programme serves as a bridge to professional stability. Graduates are expected to be prioritized for opportunities within government employment, linking national service directly to career advancement and economic integration for the nation's youth. In a message shared via his official X account, President Muizzu extended his best wishes to the newest trainees, framing the programme not just as a training exercise, but as a vital investment in the human capital of the Maldives.
