President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended official congratulations to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Ali Asadov to commemorate the nation's Independence Day. In a formal letter to President Aliyev, President Muizzu highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations as they approach the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He emphasized that the partnership is built upon a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and cooperation, expressing a strong desire to see these ties further strengthened in the coming years. Addressing Prime Minister Asadov, the President described the relationship between the Maldives and Azerbaijan as "strong and stable." He pointed to a shared commitment to mutual understanding and voiced confidence that bilateral cooperation will continue to expand across various sectors of common interest to benefit both populations. Beyond formal diplomatic channels, President Muizzu took to his official X account to acknowledge Azerbaijan's trajectory since gaining independence. He noted that the country has achieved significant progress and pursued development that aligns with the aspirations of its people. In his messages, the Maldivian leader also extended personal wishes for the health and wellbeing of Azerbaijan's leadership and expressed his hopes for the continued peace, prosperity, and progress of the Azerbaijani people. Azerbaijan celebrates its Independence Day every May 28, marking the historic declaration of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918. This diplomatic gesture underscores the Maldives' commitment to maintaining diverse international partnerships and fostering global cooperation.
