President Muizzu to Appoint 100 Experts to New National Advisory Council

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the establishment of a National Advisory Council, which will bring together over 100 experts and scholars to guide the government on critical national issues. The initiative aims to integrate the knowledge of distinguished professionals and former senior officials into the state's formal decision-making processes. During a recent appearance on PSM’s 'Nation Chat' podcast, President Muizzu explained that the government seeks to provide a structured platform for experienced individuals to contribute to policy discussions. By formalizing these advisory roles, the administration intends to leverage diverse intellectual capital to address complex governance challenges. The National Advisory Council is expected to comprise between 100 and 150 members. These experts will be drawn from a broad spectrum of professional sectors, including public health, education, economics, food security, agriculture, social affairs, and foreign diplomacy. This multidisciplinary approach is designed to ensure that government policies are informed by specialized, evidence-based perspectives. Members of the council will operate with a flexible mandate, providing guidance and recommending systemic reforms either at the President's request or through their own initiative. Furthermore, the President noted that other state institutions may also approach the council for expert advice, positioning the body as a central knowledge hub for the Maldivian government. This announcement follows the President's Independence Day address, where he also revealed plans for a separate Presidential Advisory Council specifically for recipients of national honors. This dual-council strategy reflects an effort to balance the wisdom of national laureates with the technical expertise of academic and professional scholars. The government is currently finalizing the legal and administrative procedures required to launch both bodies. President Muizzu indicated that the councils are expected to be fully operational within the next three months.
