President Muizzu to Launch Direct Feedback System for Maldivian Industries

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is developing a new formal mechanism to allow industries across the Maldives to submit recommendations and views directly to the presidency. The initiative aims to streamline the flow of constructive ideas from the private sector to government authorities, ensuring that policy decisions are informed by those working on the ground. The President announced the plan during a session of "Rayyithunge Adu," a series of individual meetings designed to facilitate direct engagement between the head of state and the public. The announcement followed a discussion with a young marketing professional from the tourism sector, whose feedback highlighted the need for more sustainable industry development and a reduction in the high cost of domestic air travel. Addressing the tourism sector specifically, President Muizzu emphasized the necessity of diversification to ensure long-term growth. He identified cultural tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism as two critical areas for expansion. Additionally, the administration is currently reviewing strategies to revive stalled resort development projects on various islands. Beyond diversification, the government is focusing on increasing the country's total bed capacity by releasing more islands for resort development. A key priority is to foster tourism opportunities in underdeveloped regions where the industry has yet to establish a significant footprint. These efforts come as the government works closely with stakeholders to promote the Maldives as a premier destination, aiming to increase visitor numbers and extend the average length of stay. Despite a slight decline in arrivals linked to conflict in the Middle East, the Maldives has maintained strong momentum, welcoming 1.3 million tourists so far this year. By establishing this direct communication channel, the President intends to create a collaborative environment where industry-specific challenges can be discussed with relevant government agencies to find actionable solutions.
