President Muizzu to Reveal Housing and Land Beneficiaries by Year-End

World ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government will release the final list of beneficiaries for both flats and land plots under the "Housing for All" scheme before the end of this year. The announcement comes as part of a broader commitment to provide transparent, merit-based housing solutions for Maldivians. During a press conference at the President’s Office, President Muizzu described housing as his administration's most significant promise to the public. He emphasized that the allocation process will be strictly merit-based, categorically stating that no units or plots would be granted based on political affiliations or personal connections. To ensure transparency, the government will utilize a points-based ranking system for flat applicants. This list will be made public later this year, allowing applicants to verify the specific project and unit assigned to them. Land plot recipients will be notified within the same timeframe. The President also provided updates on infrastructure timelines. Foundation work for most new apartment blocks in the Greater Male' region is scheduled to begin in July, with a target completion date for all units by July 2028. For those awaiting land plots, the President explained that allocations depend on the completion of dredging work at Rasmale’. While approximately 60 percent of the dredging is complete, progress has been hampered by rising oil prices. To regain momentum, the government intends to deploy two additional dredgers, aiming to finalize all dredging work by the end of 2026. The scale of the housing crisis is reflected in the overwhelming public response to the initiative. The government has received a total of 58,505 applications, with 35,930 people applying for flats and 22,575 seeking land plots.
