President Muizzu: UN Must Ensure Development Tools Are as Accessible as Freedom

Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the United Nations to provide developing nations with the means and pathways to achieve their national goals and aspirations as freely as it guarantees their freedom. In a message marking the UN’s 81st anniversary, the President stressed that for the Maldives to become a developed nation by 2040, the international community must ensure that the necessary resources—including investment in public progress, economic strengthening, and technology—are made available on an equal footing with the freedom to determine the country's future. President Muizzu warned that the credibility of the UN depends on the equitable implementation of international treaties. He pointed to the ongoing genocide in Palestine by Israel and the lack of financial and technological support for small states as examples of the inequality that erodes trust in the organisation. The President urged the UN to become a body that respects the rights of all nations and listens to every voice. Reaffirming the Maldives' steadfast commitment to the international community, President Muizzu assured that the country will always stand alongside others in protecting peace and establishing justice. He emphasised the importance of working resiliently against external challenges to achieve the national vision of a developed Maldives by 2040.
