President Muizzu Urges Maldivian Writers to Champion Truth and National Patriotism

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called upon Maldivian writers to prioritize truth, patriotism, and national values in their work, emphasizing that literature and journalism should bring honor and distinction to the Maldives. In a message shared via social media to mark the 34th National Writers' Day, the President extended his congratulations to the nation's literary community. He highlighted the intrinsic link between faith and literacy, noting that the religion of Islam encourages the pursuit of education and the dissemination of truthful information. President Muizzu specifically urged those writing in Dhivehi to maintain courtesy in their communications and to share positive reflections. He stated that writers must act as trustworthy citizens whose contributions serve to enhance the country's global reputation and benefit future generations. National Writers' Day holds deep historical significance in the Maldives, commemorating the publication of the country's first magazine, "Al-Islah," on July 8, 1933. While the milestone dates back nearly a century, the day was officially recognized and celebrated nationwide starting in 1993. The President further reflected on the pivotal role writers have played in shaping the Maldivian state. He acknowledged the diverse contributions of religious scholars through Islamic scholarship, literary experts through poetry and prose, and historians who have documented the nation's journey. He also recognized the vital roles played by journalists and political figures in driving the country's intellectual and social development.
