President Muizzu Urges National Unity Over Partisan Divides for Hijri New Year

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on Maldivians to prioritize national interest above partisan and social divisions, stating that unity is the most vital lesson to be drawn from the Hijri New Year 1448 AH. In a formal address marking the occasion, the President reflected on the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madinah. He noted that the perseverance shown during this journey 1,400 years ago serves as a timeless reminder that steadfastness in the face of immense challenges leads to success. President Muizzu emphasized that the Maldives' progress and stability depend heavily on mutual brotherhood. He urged the public to revitalize the spirit of compassion and mutual assistance exemplified by the Ansar and Muhajireen in Madinah, arguing that a strong nation can only be built through a shared vision and a commitment to righteousness. The President underscored that a primary policy objective of his administration is to nurture a generation loyal to both their faith and the nation, grounded in true Islamic principles and noble Maldivian values. He asserted that the absolute Islamic unity of the people remains the country's greatest strength and reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting national sovereignty and ensuring equality for all citizens. Looking toward the future, the President described the new year as an opportunity to rebuild the economy and strengthen the social fabric. He noted that contemporary global challenges require innovation, diligence, and hard work to overcome. He also called for continued prayers for those suffering globally, specifically highlighting the situation in Palestine. In a separate announcement via X, the President highlighted a significant milestone, noting that this year marks 900 years since the Maldives embraced Islam. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared her reflections on the occasion, offering prayers for the continued prosperity and goodness of the Maldivian people in the coming year.
