President Muizzu Urges Police to Prioritize Public Trust and Community Needs
World ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to operate as an exemplary institution, emphasizing that the needs and sentiments of the public must remain the service's primary focus.
During a high-level meeting with the MPS Executive Board at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building, the President stressed that police conduct should serve as a benchmark for public service. The session was attended by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, and Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed, alongside other executive board members.
The discussions centered on elevating the quality of police services and refining institutional management to meet the government's strategic objectives. President Muizzu specifically highlighted the critical role the Executive Board plays in ensuring strong administrative governance, particularly as police presence has now been expanded to every island across the archipelago.
In response, Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed and the board members reaffirmed their commitment to achieving these strategic goals. They pledged to focus on strengthening public confidence in law enforcement while maintaining national peace and security.
To support these objectives, the Maldives Police Service has recently undergone a structural reorganization designed to increase operational efficiency. The new framework groups police functions into specialized commands, including investigations, intelligence, forensics, operational support, technology, training, and corporate support. This reorganization aims to streamline the delivery of security services and improve the overall responsiveness of the police force to the needs of the community.
