President Muizzu Vows Higher Take-Home Pay for All Public Servants

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to increasing the take-home pay of all public servants, ensuring that no employee earns less under the current pay harmonisation framework. Speaking during the sixth episode of the 'Rayyithunge Adu' programme—a platform designed for direct dialogue between the President and citizens—the head of state addressed concerns regarding the new salary structure. A health sector professional noted that while the new framework is active, some employees still find themselves excluded or disadvantaged by the transition. President Muizzu emphasized that his administration has issued strict instructions to the National Pay Commission to ensure that no staff member suffers a pay cut. He clarified that the government's objective is not merely to maintain current wages, but to ensure that every public servant takes home more than they did previously. The President assured participants that the government is actively working to resolve individual cases where pay decreases have occurred. Beyond economic concerns, the session highlighted critical gaps in accessibility for people with disabilities. A hearing-impaired couple shared the dangers they face in residential flats, specifically the inability to hear emergency alarms during fires, as well as the communication barriers they encounter within the school system. In response, President Muizzu pledged to integrate specialized emergency warning systems into the government's current housing development projects to protect residents with disabilities. He further committed to improving accessibility and communication support within schools to ensure inclusive education for all students. Throughout the session, various citizens voiced concerns ranging from infrastructure to social services. The President concluded by stating that his office would investigate each issue raised, maintaining the programme's goal of providing a direct line of communication between the presidency and the public.
