President Muizzu Vows Permanent Solutions to Narcotics, Gangs, and Illegal Migration

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to implement permanent solutions to the three most pressing social crises facing the Maldives: the proliferation of narcotics, gang-related violence, and the prevalence of undocumented migrant workers. Speaking during the official ceremony commemorating the 61st Independence Day on Sunday, the President characterized these issues as systemic failures that have escalated over several eras. He noted that upon assuming leadership, the state of affairs was far from optimal, reflecting a long-term trajectory of instability that previous administrations failed to resolve with tangible results. President Muizzu emphasized that his administration has shifted domestic policy to move beyond superficial fixes. He stated that definitive outcomes are already materializing through strategic amendments to national laws and regulations, designed to tackle the root causes of these social instabilities. "We altered the domestic policy of this administration to bring a genuine solution to these issues," the President maintained, asserting that the government is now seeing concrete progress in addressing these major national challenges. The President declared that these social policies will be executed with unwavering resolve and collaborative effort. He framed the resolution of these entrenched crises as a prerequisite for national stability, arguing that citizens cannot experience true independence while these social threats persist. By prioritizing legislative reform and a revised domestic approach, the administration aims to dismantle the networks fueling gang activity and drug trafficking while streamlining the management of the migrant workforce, ensuring a more secure and law-abiding society for all Maldivians.
