President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that youth empowerment remains a cornerstone of his administration's national strategy, emphasizing a comprehensive policy approach to integrate young people into the economy. Speaking on the fifth episode of 'The Pulse Podcast,' a series produced by the President’s Office, the President highlighted the pivotal role youth play in driving the Maldives' economic growth.
To translate this priority into tangible outcomes, the government has introduced specialized economic schemes designed to lower barriers for young entrepreneurs. These financial initiatives are paired with a restructured educational framework aimed at building a more resilient and capable generation. The President noted that the government is focusing on expanding access to higher education and creating clearer pathways from graduation to secure, sustainable employment.
Beyond traditional academia, the administration is prioritizing vocational training to equip the youth with practical skills. President Muizzu specifically pointed to the Maldives National Service programme as a key vehicle for creating employment and fostering civic responsibility. Additionally, the government is expanding housing opportunities to ensure young adults have the stability required to pursue professional growth.
One of the most ambitious targets mentioned was the growth of the 'creator economy.' The President revealed a strategic goal to increase the sector's contribution to the national economy to 15 per cent by 2030. This move seeks to capitalize on the creativity and digital innovation of the younger generation, transforming hobbies and digital content creation into viable economic drivers.
By combining financial support, diversified education, and targeted housing and service programs, the government aims to create an inclusive ecosystem. President Muizzu concluded that these integrated policies are designed to empower Maldivian youth across all sectors, ensuring they have the tools to achieve financial independence and contribute meaningfully to the nation's future.
