Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured the public that the Maldives will resolve disruptions to key development projects caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, promising a significant acceleration in progress in the near future.
Speaking at a press briefing at the President's Office on Monday, the President addressed the bottlenecks affecting critical infrastructure works across the Greater Male’ area and various atolls. He specifically identified fuel supply shortages for construction machinery—driven by conflict in the Middle East—as a primary factor behind recent project slowdowns.
Despite these hurdles, President Muizzu emphasized that recovering lost time is a top priority for his administration. He provided updates on several high-profile initiatives, stating that the Gulhifalhu project continues to move forward. To bolster efficiency, the Road Development Corporation (RDC) has acquired new vehicles that are already being deployed on-site, while land allocation processes remain ongoing.
Significant progress was also reported regarding the Rasmale’ project, which the President revealed is now approximately 60 percent complete. Additionally, he confirmed that work on the Giraavaru Falhu project is continuing as planned.
The President's remarks come as the government seeks to balance ambitious urban expansion with the realities of global supply chain vulnerabilities. By addressing the logistics of fuel and equipment, the administration aims to ensure that these foundational projects—essential for alleviating congestion and expanding the footprint of the capital region—reach completion without further prolonged delays.
