Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the country's focus must be directed to such an extent that no slightest shadow falls upon the nation's independence and sovereignty. Speaking at the official Nasru ceremony held at Jumhooree Maidhani, the President said that just as Maldivians liberated the country from the servitude of weapons, the country must also be saved from the servitude of debt. He emphasized that the flames of corruption, fitna, and disorder must be extinguished in front of national interests.
The President highlighted that establishing economic independence is the most fundamental pillar for providing citizens with a comfortable and happy life. According to him, whether for an individual or a country, one can speak freely and remain safe from the influence of others only when there is sufficiency. He stated that one's religion and affairs can be safeguarded only by having an economy that does not require begging.
Furthermore, the President noted that the country has been saved from warnings about going bankrupt, ended the tradition of irresponsible borrowing and spending, and is currently repaying and clearing debts. He added that this has led to increasing trust from foreign investors day by day.
Referring to policies submitted on November 17, 2023, the President stated that a foreign policy prioritizing the interests of the Maldives has been established, and foreign soldiers present in the country have now been sent back. He also said that a large area of the Great Sea, which was part of the Maldives' sovereign power, has been brought back after issuing a notice, and efforts have begun in the international arena regarding this area.
The President stated that the military capability of the National Defence Force (NDF) is being enhanced in all aspects. Under the Maldives National Defence Force service program, more than 1,000 youth have become skilled so far, and several hundred other youth are completing their training and entering the job market.
As the 40th anniversary of the Nasru incident approaches, the President said that history must be taken into account, and national loyalty and safety must be brought forward before political sentiments and personal grudges. He assured that he will do nothing that causes even the slightest loss to any national principle such as the absolute Islamism of the Republic of Maldives, complete independence, and self-reliance, and stated that every step he takes will be to ensure protection and security for national interests.
