President Muizzu Welcomes New High Commissioners from Ghana and Canada

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu formally received the Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner of Ghana, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, and the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Canada, Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin, during separate ceremonies at the President’s Office. The diplomatic arrivals were marked by traditional 'Haiykolhu' cultural processions. The High Commissioners were escorted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band before being formally welcomed by the President to their respective diplomatic roles. In a subsequent meeting with Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, President Muizzu focused on deepening the bilateral ties established between the Maldives and Ghana in August 1989. The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, and various technical sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating on regional and global platforms to ensure mutual benefit for both nations. Parallelly, the President met with High Commissioner Isabelle Marie Catherine Martin to discuss the strategic partnership with Canada, a relationship that dates back to December 1981. The dialogue highlighted critical shared priorities, specifically climate change adaptation and seaplane cooperation—a vital sector for Maldivian transport. The talks also emphasized social development, focusing on gender equality and the empowerment of women and youth. Both sessions concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of the commitment to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, ensuring that diplomatic ties translate into tangible outcomes for the people of the Maldives, Ghana, and Canada.
