President Urges National Loyalty Over Political Passions on Victory Day

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for deep reflection on global affairs and the defense of freedom, emphasizing that national loyalty must take precedence over political passions. Speaking at an official ceremony held in the Republic Square area of Malé to commemorate Victory Day, the President described the victory as a triumph for the country's independence and a victory achieved for the survival of the Dhivehi people and the building of a bright future. "Approaching the thirtieth anniversary of that event, thinking about how global affairs are unfolding and how we must defend our freedom today is very important. We must take lessons from the scenes shown by the wheels of history and brighten the face of the future; we must prioritize national loyalty over political passions," President Muizzu said. He stressed that the leadership of the community must be prioritized over personal interests, and that national security, sufficiency, and the happiness of every Dhivehi individual must be provided ahead of the comforts of governance. "We must welcome sufficiency instead of remaining in the servitude of debt," the President said. President Muizzu argued that a country, community, or individual can speak its own language and remain safe from external influence only through sufficiency. "A country speaks its own language and safeguards its own religion and ways only when it has established an economy that does not need to beg," he added. The President said that while commemorating Victory Day, lessons must be reflected upon. "Just as the country was saved on that day from the servitude of weapons, freedom must be won today from the servitude of debt, and the flames of fitna and chaos must be extinguished before national interests," he stated. He also noted the need to identify the best path for the country and seize opportunities without compromising independence, while ensuring that youth and citizens find relief from their worries. "Dhivehis must not become those who merely watch other countries advance," he said. Highlighting that two new generations will be born who will not see November 3rd, the President affirmed the responsibility to provide a happy future for those children, build a safe Maldives, and offer them a contented and sufficient life.
