President vows to submit Eagle Hills agreement to Majlis committee
Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said he will submit the entire agreement for the Eagle Hills project in Malé to the relevant committee of the People's Majlis, amid opposition calls for its release. Speaking on PSM's 'Nation Chat' programme, the President said a special bill on real estate tourism related to the project would be sent to the Majlis in the near future and opened to public opinion and consultation. He said the agreement would be sent to a permanent committee designated by the Majlis for review, adding that this showed his government was running responsibly and transparently. The President dismissed the opposition's criticism as false stories and tricks to mislead the public, saying the Malé project is not a cause for worry and that the people will benefit from it. The project, known as the 'Maldives Waterfront and Marina' project, is to be implemented by Abu Dhabi's Eagle Hills company with an estimated investment of 20 billion dollars. Some political parties and activists have expressed concern that Israelis could buy property in the area, but the government has stated that no party connected to Israel will be able to buy property in Malé.
