Prosecutor Drops Case Against HDC Ex-MD and Former IT Head Over Lack of Evidence

Politics ·
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has declined to press charges against Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, the former managing director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Abdulla Shuhood, the company’s former IT head, citing insufficient evidence. The two were accused of deleting documents from HDC’s server to obstruct investigations. The PGO announced the decision on Monday, stating that neither HDC’s IT department nor police investigations found evidence of data deletion or loss. The allegations arose after leaked documents suggested irregularities in land allocations under the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme. Fazul resigned in December 2023, maintaining his innocence, and was replaced by Mohamed Mauroof Jameel. Despite the accusations, Fazul remains active in the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
