Proxy Group to Build New Handball and Futsal Facilities in Fuvahmulah City

The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness has awarded a contract to Proxy Group Private Limited to develop two key sports facilities in Fuvahmulah City. The project involves the construction of a new handball court and a futsal ground to enhance the city's athletic infrastructure. The agreements were formalized during a signing ceremony held at the ministry. Deputy Minister Ali Nizar signed on behalf of the government, while Proxy Group Managing Director Ahmed Shahid signed for the private firm. The handball court project, valued at approximately USD 129,546, must be completed within a 90-day timeframe. Similarly, the construction of the futsal ground, estimated at USD 134,850, carries the same 90-day deadline for completion. These developments are part of a broader government strategy to prioritize the expansion of sports facilities and promote athletic excellence across the archipelago. The ministry is currently overseeing a nationwide rollout of sports infrastructure, with futsal grounds under construction in 15 islands and handball courts being developed in three other islands. By decentralizing high-quality sporting venues, the government aims to provide youth in the atolls with better opportunities for training and competition, reducing the need for athletes to travel to the capital for standard facilities.
