PSM and MediaNet Partner to Broadcast FIFA World Cup Free for Maldives

Politics ·
Public Service Media (PSM) and MediaNet have entered into a strategic partnership to ensure that all FIFA World Cup matches are broadcast free of charge to audiences across the Maldives. The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at the PSM headquarters. Mohamed Saeed, Executive Director of Commercial and Corporate at PSM, and Hussain Samaan, Residential Sales representative for MediaNet, signed the pact on behalf of their respective organizations. Under the terms of the agreement, the tournament will be accessible via PSM’s designated channels delivered through MediaNet’s extensive network. To ensure maximum accessibility, viewers can stream matches through MediaNet’s cable service, traditional television platforms, and mobile application without the need for a paid subscription. Beyond the live match broadcasts, PSM will enhance the viewing experience by producing a comprehensive suite of supporting content. This will include pre-match build-up shows, expert analysis programs, and dedicated coverage of the tournament's key events. This initiative continues a long-standing tradition in the Maldives; since the 1986 World Cup, the government has facilitated public access to the tournament to foster national unity and provide entertainment for all citizens. The current partnership is backed by strong government support and aligns with PSM’s public service mandate to democratize access to major global sporting events. By removing financial barriers to entry, the partnership aims to engage football fans across all atolls, ensuring that the excitement of the world's most popular sport reaches every household in the archipelago.
