PSM Chairperson Seeks to Strengthen Maldives-China Media Ties After Beijing Training

Aminath Namza, Chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM), has met with Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua to discuss expanding cooperation between the two nations' media organizations. The meeting followed Chairperson Namza's participation in an international media training program in China, aimed at enhancing public service broadcasting in the Maldives. From July 7 to 18, Namza took part in the Global Development Initiative (GDI) – International Media Youth Training Program in Beijing and Sanya. The initiative gathered 34 professionals from 20 countries, including chief executives and journalists, to explore China's experiences in digital transformation, media innovation, and sustainable development. During her discussions with Ambassador Kong, Namza emphasized a key theme from the program: placing people at the center of development. She noted that this philosophy aligns directly with the mission of public service media, which prioritizes the delivery of accurate, meaningful, and people-centered journalism to the public. At the program's graduation ceremony in Sanya, Namza delivered the closing address on behalf of all participants. She highlighted the media's critical role in bridging gaps between nations and promoting global peace through responsible journalism, asserting that media has the power to foster mutual respect and inclusivity. Moving forward, Chairperson Namza plans to collaborate with the PSM team to implement the knowledge gained in China. Proposed initiatives include professional capacity building, knowledge exchange with Chinese media institutions, and the adoption of innovative broadcasting techniques to strengthen people-to-people ties. Ambassador Kong congratulated Namza on her completion of the program, affirming that media exchanges are vital for strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding between China and the Maldives. Organized by the Global Development Promotion Center of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the training featured comprehensive lectures and field visits. These covered diverse topics including poverty alleviation, green development, and the operations of the Hainan Free Trade Port, providing Namza with a broader understanding of China's development journey.
