PSM Launches World Cup Portal and Announces Free-to-Air Tournament Broadcasts
Politics ·
Public Service Media (PSM) has launched a comprehensive digital portal dedicated to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing Maldivian football fans with a centralized hub for all tournament information.
The new website serves as a real-time resource, featuring detailed team and player profiles, match schedules, and the latest official updates. To assist fans following the event from abroad, the portal also includes comprehensive guides on the stadiums and host cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
In a landmark move for local sports broadcasting, PSM has secured free-to-air access for the entire tournament. Through a strategic partnership with MediaNet, all World Cup matches will be broadcast live on PSM channels at no cost to viewers with a MediaNet connection. This marks the first time in the Maldives that the world's premier football event will be available freely to the general public.
Beyond digital and broadcast infrastructure, PSM is implementing community outreach to build excitement. The broadcaster recently hosted a children's event where local students engaged in football-themed games and interacted with tournament mascots. This is complemented by a targeted social media campaign featuring interactive contests designed to engage the younger generation of fans.
As the 2026 tournament promises to be one of the most competitive in history, PSM’s dual approach—combining a robust digital presence with accessible broadcasting—aims to ensure that every football enthusiast across the archipelago can experience the event without financial barriers.
