Public Service Media (PSM) leadership has highlighted the pivotal role of Television Maldives (TVM) in fostering national unity as the public broadcaster celebrates its 48th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, PSM's three most senior officials—Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb, Chairperson Aminath Namza, and Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yamin—participated in a special morning programme. They reflected on the broadcaster's journey and the dedication of its staff as the foundation of its success.
Managing Director Shakeeb noted TVM's pioneering regional introduction of colour programming in 1978. He explained how the broadcaster successfully transitioned vital information from radio to engaging television content, capturing public interest through both entertainment and practical value. Shakeeb emphasized that TVM's consistency is built on enduring public trust, which has been central to its role in strengthening societal unity.
Chairperson Aminath Namza stated that PSM, as a public broadcaster, does not operate to compete with other media. She affirmed that all TVM programming strictly adheres to established guidelines and standards, highlighting the transformative impact the channel has had on Maldivian broadcasting for viewers.
Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yamin commended the tireless efforts of PSM employees, identifying workforce unity and collaboration as the organization's greatest achievement over nearly five decades. He added that staff have continuously adapted to changing times to ensure the delivery of relevant, high-quality content.
The management has planned several events for the anniversary and assured that the contributions of all employees will be recognized. They reaffirmed a commitment to further developing the workforce, crediting the exemplary service of every staff member as the key factor in maintaining the broadcaster's quality and legacy.
