PSM News Marks Ninth Anniversary with Plans to Expand Regional Coverage
Politics ·
PSM News is celebrating nine years of providing 24-hour news and current affairs coverage to the Maldives. Since its official launch on May 3, 2017, the channel has operated as the country's first dedicated round-the-clock news service, aiming to deliver timely and reliable information to the public.
Reflecting on the milestone, Public Service Media (PSM) Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb praised the news team's efforts in disseminating critical information and raising public awareness through specialized programming and coverage of major national and international events.
While acknowledging the channel's achievements, Shakeeb emphasized the need for a strategic shift in focus. He noted that current reporting often centers on the capital, Malé, which does not fully represent the diversity of the archipelago. He committed to expanding the network's reach to ensure breaking news from all regions of the Maldives is reported in real time.
PSM News currently offers a comprehensive suite of content in both Dhivehi and English, spanning local news, sports, and business updates. Among its flagship daily productions are “Dhuniyeyge Kalhi” and “Raajje Miadhu,” which analyze global and national developments. The channel also produces specialized content focusing on parliamentary activities and national development projects.
To adapt to the digital era, PSM News has integrated its reporting across multiple social media platforms, ensuring that breaking news reaches a wider audience beyond traditional television viewers. This digital expansion complements their commitment to live coverage and rapid updates, maintaining their role as a primary information source for the Maldivian public.
As the channel enters its tenth year, the priority remains the delivery of accurate, real-time journalism while evolving its infrastructure to better serve citizens across all atolls.
