PSM Offers Free FIFA World Cup Coverage for All MediaNet Subscribers

Public Service Media (PSM) has officially launched its broadcast coverage for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, introducing a landmark agreement that will allow Maldivians to watch the tournament for free. In a first for the nation, viewers with a MediaNet connection anywhere in the Maldives can access the matches via PSM channels without additional cost.
The launch ceremony, held at the PSM TV Building, was attended by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Abdulla Rafiu. Other key dignitaries present included Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, Football Association of Maldives (FAM) President Ahmed Thariq, and PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb.
During the event, PSM unveiled a comprehensive programming slate designed to elevate the tournament experience. This includes dedicated match analysis shows and a lineup of expert presenters and analysts. To further engage the community, the broadcaster plans to organize public participation activities and events aimed at building national excitement as the tournament approaches.
A highlight of the ceremony was the official unveiling of the “Trionda,” the tournament's official match ball, presented by Minister Abdulla Rafiu, FAM President Ahmed Thariq, and Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This edition of the tournament will see an expanded format, featuring 48 teams competing for the title.
PSM stated that its primary goal is to bring the global World Cup atmosphere directly into Maldivian homes and public viewing areas. By leveraging big screens across the country, the broadcaster aims to make the 2026 tournament a unique and inclusive experience for football fans throughout the archipelago.
