Politics ·
The Public Health Conference 2025 concluded on December 9, with a focus on addressing the healthcare challenges faced by migrants in the Maldives. The two-day event, organized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Maldives National University (MNU), brought together over 100 participants, including representatives from provincial hospitals, government bodies, private companies, associations, and health professionals. Discussions centered around barriers to healthcare access for migrants, the implementation challenges of the National Migrant Health Policy, and potential solutions through inter-institutional collaboration. During the closing ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim introduced two new vaccines—the pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines—which will be available from December 10. The conference was sponsored by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the SAARC Development Fund, and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
