Rashtan Island development offers glimpse of Rasmalé project potential

Economy ·
A visit by a Maldivian media delegation to Rashtan Island in Abu Dhabi has revealed the scale and pace of development being undertaken by Eagle Hills, the same company entrusted with the Maldives' largest-ever investment, the 'Maldives Waterfront and Marina' project in Rasmalé. Rashtan Island, connected to Abu Dhabi by land bridges, is being developed on a 400-hectare natural island with 1,800 luxury villas, 900 marina residences, and a 120-room hotel. Thousands of workers are rapidly building infrastructure and villas, showcasing the company's financial capability. The Rasmalé project will be even larger, covering 500 hectares of reclaimed land. While Rashtan targets the wealthy, the first phase of Rasmalé will include 5,000 social housing units in Hulhumalé. Eagle Hills has also stated that no additional land will be reclaimed for Rasmalé and that environmental principles will be prioritised. Minister Dr. Muthaliib called the project a significant economic change for the country. The successful completion of Rasmalé depends on full implementation of the agreement to address housing, dollar shortages, and economic growth.
