The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been awarded contracts to undertake road development projects on the islands of Hulhudhuffaaru in Raa Atoll and Himandhoo in Alif Alif Atoll, with a completion timeline set for 730 days.
A special signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, where State Minister Hassan Rasheed signed on behalf of the ministry, and Finance and Accounting General Manager Hassan Rifaee Bushry represented RDC. The contracts formalize the start of these critical infrastructure initiatives.
For Hulhudhuffaaru, this project marks the second phase of its road development, indicating ongoing efforts to enhance local connectivity. The combined focus on both islands highlights the government's commitment to upgrading essential services across the Maldives, particularly in outer atolls.
Road development is vital for island communities, improving transportation safety, boosting economic activities, and enhancing access to schools, healthcare, and markets. In the Maldivian context, reliable infrastructure supports decentralization and sustainable development, directly impacting residents' quality of life.
The 730-day deadline emphasizes efficiency and accountability, aligning with national goals to strengthen local economies. RDC's expertise ensures that construction adheres to standards, with work expected to commence shortly. These projects are part of a broader push to modernize transport networks, fostering regional prosperity and resilience for Hulhudhuffaaru and Himandhoo residents.
