RDC Secures Contracts to Modernize Roads in Baarah and Muraidhoo
Politics ·
The Road Development Corporation (RDC) will undertake major road modernisation projects on the islands of Baarah and Muraidhoo in Haa Alif Atoll. The contracts were formalized in a signing ceremony at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, with State Minister Hassan Rasheed and RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem representing their respective sides.
On Baarah, home to about 1,000 residents, the project will upgrade the outer main road and the main ring road. The work is scheduled for completion in three years and five months. The island is noted for its relatively large landmass compared to other inhabited Maldivian islands.
In Muraidhoo, with a population of approximately 500, the project will focus on asphalting and upgrading commonly used roads to modern standards. This initiative has a faster timeline, with an expected completion date within two years and ten days.
These infrastructure upgrades aim to improve daily connectivity and transportation for residents on both islands, addressing essential needs in the northern atoll.
