RDC Trains 108 Staff to Deploy Massive New Heavy Vehicle Fleet Nationwide

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has completed a comprehensive training program for 108 technical personnel to operate and maintain a newly acquired fleet of 230 heavy vehicles. The initiative aims to significantly accelerate infrastructure development and road construction across the Maldives. The fleet, which arrived in the Maldives during the first week of this month, includes a diverse range of machinery such as excavators, forklifts, and dump trucks. To bolster asphalt production, the acquisition also includes four tar plants—one 80-tonne unit and three 40-tonne units—imported through a Chinese partner. To ensure the equipment is managed effectively, RDC provided both theoretical and practical instruction to operators and maintenance teams from Malé and various atolls. The hands-on component of the training was conducted at Thilafushi, providing staff with direct experience in handling the specialized machinery. According to RDC, the corporation is now in the final stages of vehicle registration. Once completed, the fleet will be deployed to various islands, with an initial batch destined for 20 strategic locations. These vehicles will support RDC's internal projects and contribute to broader development work on the islands where they are stationed. Government authorities have indicated that priority will be given to establishing essential utility services in key development zones. This effort is being carried out in close collaboration with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to ensure a coordinated approach to national growth. This large-scale investment in equipment and human capital is part of a broader government strategy to expedite critical infrastructure projects. By increasing the availability of heavy machinery and ensuring a skilled workforce is ready to operate them, the administration seeks to reduce delays in road development and utility installation across the archipelago.
