Real Madrid Stun Roma With Late Comeback; PSG Beat Manchester City
Sports ·
Real Madrid produced a stunning late comeback to beat Roma 4-3 away in the UEFA Champions League league phase last night, while the reigning two-time champions, PSG, defeated Manchester City 4-2.
Roma started strongly at home and took the lead in the 20th minute when Maarten de Roon's shot from outside the area deflected off a player and went into the goal. Real equalised against the run of play through Kylian Mbappé, who scored in his 100th Champions League match by taking advantage of a mistake by Mario Hermoso. The goal took Mbappé's club football tally to 378.
After the break, Donyell Malen scored two goals to give Real a scare. But Real responded late: Carlos gave the team a lift in the 82nd minute, Endrick equalised in the 85th minute from an Arda Güler corner, and in the 90th minute Real overturned the result from another corner.
In the other match, PSG scored three first-half goals through Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha to take control away to Manchester City. City competed in the second half and tried to come from behind with two goals from Erling Haaland, but Maghnes Akliouche extended PSG's lead. At the end, Ferran Torres missed a penalty for PSG. Former coach Pep Guardiola also attended and faced disappointment first.
