Republic Square area to close tomorrow for Nasr Day events

Authorities have announced the closure of the Republic Square area tomorrow for official Nasr Day events, including road, lagoon and sea areas from early morning until nightfall. Police stated in a social media post that the closures will affect roads around Republic Square, the Martyrs' Memorial Building and the Islamic Centre, as well as the sea area of the region. Specific closures include: from 4:00 AM until completion of Fajr prayer at Jamaath, roads near the Islamic Centre will be closed to pedestrians; from 4:00 AM until completion of flag hoisting, roads near the Martyrs' Memorial Building and Islamic Centre will be closed; from 1:30 PM until completion of the military display, roads around Republic Square and the lagoon and sea areas will be closed; and from 6:30 PM until completion of the official Nasr Day session, roads surrounding Republic Square and the lagoon will be closed. Every year, November 3 is celebrated as Nasr Day, commemorating the soldiers who defended the Maldives during a major terrorist attack. Events include flag hoisting, military marches and other national ceremonies in Malé and the atolls.
